Risk Of Red Yeast Rice, An Association To Statin?

The risk of red yeast rice RYR) and or extractions may be a bit more confusing than one might think. Some studies and clinical trials claim to have found nothing serious in terms of adverse side effects or complications but this does not excuse this natural supplement from being incapable of producing side effects. In fact, some publications have suggested that because RYR is a natural form of the drug statin, they should produce similar if not identical side effects. .

Statin is a drug used to lower cholesterol. Because RYR acts as a natural statin, you would expect some of the same side effects caused by statin. The publication that I reviewed suggests that you should be on the lookout for those side effects caused by statin. Keep in mind that this is a prescription alternative that the FDA wanted to label a drug, so should one be at least a little cautious?

While the name of this supplement may sound harmless enough, it is always safe practice to do as you are doing now…research. The history behind Red rice yeast or red yeast rice is that it is actually a Chinese condiment made from fermented rice. It is the reaction between the rice and the yeasts that provides us with the statin substances. So now the question becomes, “what are the side effects to statin and what dangers and risks are involved, if any”?

The risk of red yeast rice my be minimal, if at all existent, but it is worth the effort to familiarize yourself with the side effects associated with statin in case you do experience some signs or symptoms that can be traced back to the RYR. Caution Do not combine red yeast rice with any fenofibrate or statin drugs for it could enhance the overall performance of those drugs, further increasing the risk of experiencing those side effects associated with these medications. It is important to keep in mind that RYR works in a very similar way as statin and should therefore be treated accordingly.
