DHEA
(dehydroepiandrosterone) is only one of a slew of health supplements that made a debut in the world of innovative, anti-aging and cutting edge products of the nineties. Due to FDA restrictions, nutritional and pharmaceutical companies off shore were the leaders in the distribution of products such as this one.
Dehydroepiandrosterone is a sterone that is produced primarily by the adrenal glands and is found naturally in the human body. These particular hormones serve as a precursor to male and female sex hormones. This is an anti-aging hormone that improves the immune system and increases the effectiveness of brain neurons.
Levels of this hormone decline with age and do so even more rapidly past the age of 40. Secretion of this hormone is believed to be at optimal levels from early to mid twenties and by the time one reaches 70 years old of age, production of this hormone is only at a fraction of what it was at age twenty something.
Research suggest that DHEA may be helpful in the prevention and treatment of many disease such as arterial diseases, Alzheimer’s, cancer lupus, multiple sclerosis and osteoporosis. Research further shows that people suffering from AIDS, anorexia, kidney disease and diabetes have low levels of this hormone.
The best form of this supplement to take is said to be a derivative called 7-keto because it specifically targets the immune system function. Additionally, 7-keto is not converted into estrogen or testosterone, which is good for women concerned with breast cancer and males concerned with prostate cancer. Also, female experiencing menopause need not worry about the side effects of facial hair or acne.
Caution should be used when ingesting this supplement. Some nutritionists and physicians believe that high doses of this supplement may suppress the body’s natural ability to synthesize this hormone. Also it is not recommended for men with enlarged prostates or individuals with heart disease.
